Skele-Dog Princess

This is one of my earliest 3D works, inspired by the idea of a beloved pet returning in a fantastical, animated-movie–style way.

It’s a personal piece made in memory of my childhood dog, Princess.

The process was painstaking, partly because I was still learning, but it represents an important step in my artistic journey and my ongoing love for creative storytelling and fantasy.

Exploring Mental Health & Growth - With Puppets

This collection of hand-stitched puppets was created as an exploration of mental health, identity, and the way we often judge ourselves and others. Each puppet represents a different part of the emotional experiences we carry through life. Through this work, I wanted to explore learning to accept the parts of ourselves that may feel misunderstood or imperfect, and to recognize that those pieces are often what make us unique.

  • The blue puppet represents childhood and the difficult feeling of having to “grow up” while trying not to lose the imagination and comfort that once defined you. He wears a small superhero-style cape that I stitched from pieces of my childhood baby blankets. These blankets followed me through many rooms, memories, and messy moments growing up, and they were always a small comfort that meant a great deal during those formative years. In many ways, this puppet represents imagination, curiosity, and the importance of holding onto the parts of yourself that once helped you feel safe.

  • The white puppet is intentionally a bit messy and imperfect. This character represents a lighter, more easygoing part of ourselves—someone who feels strong but kind, almost like a mentor. It reflects the voice that reminds us that it’s okay not to be perfect, and that life is meant to be explored even when things feel a little scary or uncertain.

  • The grey vampire puppet represents the heavier emotions we sometimes face, such as depression, fear, exhaustion, and anxiety. He wears pajamas and a sleeping cap for those restless nights, with dark circles under your eyes, as you try to coax yourself to sleep. The sleepy vampire reflects the draining feeling of anxiety and depression, as they quietly take energy from you over time. Including this character was important to me because, despite my lighthearted way of showing it, these struggles are a very real part of life that often get ignored. These consuming feelings often get overlooked and excused. A reminder that you can’t do everything yourself and that’s okay. There is always someone who wants to hear what you have to say and help when you need it, even when you think nobody could possibly care, there will always be someone who will listen whether you know them or not.

  • The final puppet, dark blue with piercings, represents individuality and the courage to step outside of expectations. Like an apprentice, still learning, still growing, and sometimes expressing frustration or anger while trying to find his place. This character explores the transition through different stages of life, where personalities shift, emotions become stronger, and people begin to grow into themselves more boldly and un-apologetically.

Together, these four puppets tell a story about mental health, self-reflection, and the process of growing older. Creating this project helped me better understand my own experiences and appreciate the parts of myself that I struggle to accept. In the end, this collection is a reminder that the qualities we sometimes feel pressured to hide—our imagination, fears, imperfections, and strengths—are often the very things that make us who we are.
